Welcome to my space
Well it has been about a year since I started this page, and time for
an update. As I learn more, I hope it will grow more entertaining and
informative. I am a relatively new computer user, but I am learning.
It seems that the more I learn the more I need to learn. So welcome to
my adventure. I would like to thank Steves Templates for
the template I
am using, there is a link at the bottom of the page for free web
templates. And Thanks to The
Graphics Station for the free graphics.
__________
I grew up in the Upper Peninsula of
Michigan, but left the area and joined the Army after High School. I was
living in the Florida Keys when I first started learning about
computers. I have just moved back to the UP, and bought a farm. My ISP
gives me a space to put a web page up, so here we are. I have some
things to learn. When I bought my
first computer in 2003, it came with Microsoft Windows installed, so I
got a book and started learning. I kept anti-virus software up to date,
I had anti-spy ware programs, and firewalls. I spent more time scanning
for bugs and De-fraging than surfing, and still had the my computer
infested with crud. As I was fighting this, I was reading. I kept
coming across something called Linux,
Linux is another Operating system. It is
Free, and immune to Windows virus and spy ware problems. I have been
using it ever since, and have found it to be a fast, powerful.and fun
system.

I have tried several Linux distrubutions. Slackware,Xandros, Mandrake,
Linspire to name a few. They are all good Operating Systems, each with
its strong points. I do have a favorite, and would recomend it
wholeheartedly. PCLinuxOS is an easy to set up and fun to use OS.
It is under constant development, and offers state of the art software. The latest release is PCLinuxOS 2007.

PCLinuxOS can be downloaded for FREE. (donations accepted).
There are many different distributions of
Linux. Some are small base systems, others are full featured or
specialized. Some are better for older hardware, and others for newer.
There are a lot of choices. PCLinuxOS has become my personal favourite.
It is the most user
friendly system I have found. It can run as a Live-CD,and can run the
computer from the CD-ROM,without touching your hard-drive, or it can be
installed. You chose. Linux is all about choice.
Desktop
Screenshots
I am posting some screenshots from my laptop. I change the look of my
desktop often. It keeps things fresh and gives me an oportunity to play
with the graphics programs.
This is an older one I had for a while.

And this is another From the last release of PCLinuxOS.
This is my attempt at an LCARS theme.
I am not a diehard Trekie, But have always been a sci-fi fan. I like the style of the computer interface on Star Trek.
This one is a 3D desktop. The wonderful thing about this system is that
it is easily customized. You can make it a truly Personal computer.
I often change the look, and like testing new features. It keeps things fresh.
Ok, so this is one interest, but that's not all. I have
been working on our new place. Cleaning it up and planting. I
have
some pictures of my new home, some of the critters and a few of the
last hurricane in The Florida Keys. You can click on
the Photo
Album.
I keep having trouble with this link, you can copy and paste this. http://jamadots.com/~pcosmar/photos
I hope to be able to turn this place back into a working farm, but
that is a lot of work. I have spent the first year just cleaning up
around here, and finding out what I have to work with. We did some test
planting, and should have a better garden this year. Most of the ground
is clay, so I will have to work at getting stuff to grow well. Thats
something else to experiment on.
I have added a new link under Blogs. The Yooper Forums,
and though it is not a Blog, it is a regular stop. For anyone in the
UP, or interested in Michigans UP, It is a nice place on the web. Stop
by, or sign in and visit.
We
have also joined a local church. We (Carol and I) had stoped in a few
curches and like this one. The Brimley Baptist Church is a small
congregation and very friendly. I have talked to the pastor about a web
site. They don't have one yet, but I offered to help if they want. If
that happens I will add a link.
I have also added some links to Ron Paul. He is a Republican
Congressman running for President. I like his ideas and his voting
record. I believe he offers hope for a better America. Please take a
look at what he stands for.
Brief Overview of Congressman Paul’s Record:
He has never voted to raise taxes.
He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
He has never taken a government-paid junket.
He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.
He voted against the Patriot Act.
He voted against regulating the Internet.
He voted against the Iraq war.
He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.
Congressman Paul introduces numerous pieces of substantive legislation each year, probably
more than any single member of Congress.

Get involved. Vote.
