Central Office Technician
Job Description
The Central Office Technician's responsibilities are varied and will include installation, maintenance, and testing of switching of central office related facilities and equipment. The Central Office Technician works with and receives detailed guidance from the Network Manager, and Network Operations Center Staff as assigned and must be able to carry out specific instructions remotely. Operating personal computer and electronic device (smartphones, laptop) to receive and complete work instructions from supervisor or other designated employees in connection with the provisioning and maintenance of telecommunications and broadband services
Qualifications
Education/ Certifications Candidate must meet the minimum qualifications as detailed below or have a combination of education and/or experience deemed equivalent by management. High school diploma or GED (required). A.S. or B.S. in Computer Network and Systems Administration or related field of study (preferred). Two years of experience in central office/plant operations (preferred). Other desirable qualifications include: Knowledge of AC and DC powering schemes, optical transport, ATM switching, IP switching and routing, DSL technology, Ethernet switching, packet voice, FTTH, wireless data, typical central office equipment applications, and CCNA. Experience and/or training in programming and/or network and systems security, design, and/or monitoring a plus. Requirements: Valid State Driver’s License. Undergo background check and motor vehicle record. Reside within 30 minute drive of assigned reporting location. On-call rotation.
